Event Details

"Beyond the Familiar: Living the Edges of Your Life" is a very special event being offered to the Annapolis community, the region of the Chesapeake, and beyond. This weekend of engagement with world-renowned poet David Whyte will take place on the campus of St. John’s College in Annapolis Maryland. In keeping with the rich and long history of St John’s, the design will offer opportunity for interaction, both with David himself and with fellow participants. The theme reveals the vision behind the event: to explore new dimensions of Life; to discover deeper meaning and purpose in Life, and to engage in sustainable and creative change. The intention is for the conversations to touch our lives as individuals, families, communities, and our world. David Whyte's writing and speaking are deeply rooted in his realism and honesty with the human experience. He draws upon poetry, story, deep insight into Life, a natural touch of humor, and a very authentic presence. Through these innate qualities, he engages his audiences with both his rich material and his openness to "courageous conversation". The event begins with a Friday evening session, followed by Saturday morning and afternoon sessions and a concluding session Sunday morning. We have made arrangements for you to order a gourmet quality box lunch for Saturday if you choose. It will include a good and generous sandwich - veggie, or meat (i. e. turkey, ham or roast beef as available), - fresh fruit, a big cookie, and bottled water. Our reasons for adding this option are: a) part of the vision for the weekend is to foster creative conversations and community, and b) the St. John's campus is beautiful, bordered by College Creek with acres for walking, sitting, eating, having good conversation, and/or being alone with your personal reflections.
